Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros: Janglin (RAC remix)

It seems that everyone goes crazy every time Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros begin any song of theirs but “Home,” “40 Day Dream” and “Janglin” definitely gets the crowd in a heightened tizzy. I’ve gotten the chance to experience the massive group three times this year and each time it was in a festival setting. Alex Ebert and his crew really know how to make the most of an outdoor stage and after seeing them so many times during one season, I can definitely confirm that they are the perfect festival band.
It goes beyond the hippie characteristic. There’s just a natural energy that exudes happiness from the stage and everyone takes a moment to forget where which pocket they put their drugs in and just experience the moment instead. Although I was disappointed by their extremely late start at Sunset Junction (it was their homecoming show – I thought we deserved the reciprocation), they still pulled off an extremely enjoyable set. Sure, the man in the red scarf slurred a bit here and there but he was home! Celebration and music often get mixed into drinks.
Some of you may remember the RAC remix of their song, “Home” I posted a while back. You guys helped shoot it up to #1 on the good ol’ Hype Machine and I don’t blame your love for the track. The Remix Artist Collective have such as delicate and strategic touch within their rearrangements. As I said before, RAC never loses the heart of the song but instead puts on a very thin skin on top. “Janglin” has now gotten their golden touch and it sounds great! I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of this pairing.
Take a listen to RAC’s remix of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Janglin” below!
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros: Memory of a Free Festival (David Bowie cover)

Everyone knows how magical I think Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are. (You can listen to me blabber about them on Hype Machine Radio.) However, Edward Sharpe doing a David Bowie cover just completely blows my mind to pieces. Who doesn’t love Bowie and what group would do a better job of highlighting all the eccentricities of his music?
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ cover of “Memory of a Free Festival” comes off of a compilation titled We Are So Turned On that will benefit War Child International. It’s a double disc album that features an insane amount of talented artists such as Warpaint, Vivian Girls, A Place To Bury Strangers, VoicesVoices, Sister Crayon and plenty more all doing David Bowie covers.
It’ll be released on September 14th via Manimal Vinyl but check out the Edward Sharpe cover below for now!
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros: Home (RAC remix)

There is no escaping the magic of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. They’re a massive band and I’m not just talking about their size in regards to how many band members they cram on stage. Despite numerous people up there, Edward Sharpe and his gang are not Canadians. They’re based right out of Los Angeles, but they’ve been everywhere. They’ve been on tour all over the States and Europe, have been scheduled to play at every summer festival and are also in every other TV show or commercial.
Sharpe (aka Alex Ebert) who is also a part of the band Ima Robot, has this contagious spirituality that turns all his listeners into very happy hippies. (Grumpy hippies do exist. They’re the ones who complain.) Perhaps it’s the fact that he slightly resembles Jesus, but songs such as “Home” get people moving like they’re dancing at the original Woodstock.
I’m assuming everyone has heard the song, ‘Home” by now so I’m offering a pretty rad remix of the track by RAC (Remix Artist Collective). This collective has done remixes of songs from everyone such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tokyo Police Club, Hockey and more. What I like best about them is that their remixes add on elements instead of completely swallowing the original sound; they actually make the songs lighter instead of heavier or darker.
Check their remix out below. It’s been around for a while but I’m not one to be concerned about racking up the hits on this little ol’ blog of mine with songs the second they come out. If I like something, I’ll share it with you when I feel you need to hear it and now is the time you need to hear this track. Enjoy!
