Erik Hassle & Ellie Goulding: Be Mine (Robyn cover)

with one comment

There is a plethora of Swedes making it big in the States, and if they’re making great tunes I welcome them with open ears. Peter Born & John, El Perro del Mar, Jens Lekman, Robyn, and Lykke Li are among some of the popular ones.

Now, it seems that I’ve found another one who I am really beginning to dig. While obsessively looking for Ellie Goulding songs online, I came across this duet she’s done with a young guy named Erik Hassle. At the age of only 21 years old, Hassle has a fantastic pop sound that is beautifully infused with soul. His debut album, Hassle, was released in Sweden back in August and I am seriously thinking about getting an import.

The duet he and Goulding does is a cover of Robyn‘s “Be Mine.” Swedes covering Swedes. Go figure. I’m assuming he’s teamed up with Goulding because he is based in London.

Check the duet out below as it is a nice down tempo acoustic version of the hit pop song. Afterward, I strongly encourage you to listen to his song, “Hurtful.” It reminds me a bit of Gavin DeGraw or Eric Hutchinson. I just hope he doesn’t fizzle out with repetitive and trite songwriting like those two have.

Ellie Goulding: Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)

leave a comment »

There’s no use in hiding the fact that I have a lady crush on UK’s rising electronica-pop star, Ellie Goulding. Her ability to make that thin voice soar over mesmeric beats have already gotten her into my iTunes’ top 25 most listened songs. That’s how much I listen to this girl.

I recently brought you the remix of her single, “Under the Sheets,” but I just found out that there is also a remix of “Starry Eyed.” This song has been around a bit longer than “Under the Sheets,” so it leaves me befuddled to realize that I’ve never heard it because it’s remixed by the same DJ, Jakwob.

Jakwob, a British DJ who is only 20 years old, keeps cranking these remixes out and I have to say – He does such a great job at creating clean beats on songs I love that I may find myself diving into the Dubstep genre all over again.

Take a listen to the remix of Goulding’s “Starry Eyed” by Jakwob. It’s a great partnership between two young and upcoming talents.

Ellie Goulding: Under the Sheets (Jakwob Remix)

with 2 comments

If you haven’t heard of Ellie Goulding by now, your only reason may be that you’re over here in the States. Overseas, the British acoustic turned electro-pop singer has blown up within the last few months. She’s opened up for Little Boots, worked with Frankmusik and even covered Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead” on a Starsmith remix. Although her voice fits right into the stereotypical feathery light vocals that often accompany electronica, her range is impressive and she pulls it off almost Lykke Li style with pockets of R&B hidden in every measure or so.

She’s currently working on her full-length debut with popular producer, Mark Ronson. There isn’t a title or a definite date yet, but it is slated for an early 2010 release. Her first single is “Under the Sheets,” and although it’s only been out for a few weeks a remix by Jakwob has already been born. Considering the fact that a lot of electronica songs remixed are too much for me, this remix is quite good. Jakwob does a fine job accentuating just the right amount of build-ups to the chorus and layers the elements in an organized matter.

Listen to the remix after the jump. Then watch the video for the original version.
