Stars: Dead Hearts (LightsoverLA remix)

Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe Torquil Campbell and Amy Milan of Stars aren’t married to each other. Based on the way their bodies react to one another as their vocals go back and forth on stage, you’d think they were each other’s spouses. However, we know that’s not true even if both their harmonies have this beautiful ability to nest in each other like a warm embrace.
I was lucky enough to see them perform their new album, The Five Ghosts, when they ended their North American tour at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. Both shows were sold out but by some miracle my photographer and I were able to cover the first night for BeatCrave. If you haven’t checked out the live footage (videos of two new songs and three classic ones), review and photos, I highly recommend doing so immediately.
As I note in the previously mentioned review, Stars write gorgeous songs about love, death and sex but some of them are more somber than others. For instance, “Dead Hearts” has a haunting melody but is a very soft opening track. So when I discovered LightsoverLA‘s remix of the song, I knew I had to share it. It keeps the song’s heart with the slow verses but it picks up with some sparkling beats during the chorus. Take a listen below and enjoy!
Stars: Fixed

Although their “Sad Robot” EP was a nice consolation alongside distraction, most fans like myself cannot wait for the release of upcoming album, The Five Ghosts. Come June 22 via Soft Revolution Records, we’ll finally be able to hold a brand new studio album from Canadian band, Stars.
To tide us over, they’ve released the album’s lead-single “Fixed.” Compared to their last couple of albums combined, the single is a bit more synth-heavy. However, I’ve always thought of Stars as the pop version of Arcade Fire, so it suits me just fine. Plus, Amy Milan’s vocals are enough of a comfort to soothe me no matter which direction this album ends up going.
